Balak, a king paralyzed by the rising power of Israel, sought a spiritual solution to a military problem. He attempted to hire Balaam, a man of formidable spiritual reputation, to place a metaphysical “hex” on his enemies. What follows is a masterclass in the psychology of greed, the irony of spiritual blindness, and the chilling realization that the most dangerous threats are rarely external. As we will see, certain behaviors always travel in pairs, and the most effective way to destroy an opponent isn’t through open warfare, but through “neighborly” seduction.
